Why is
it so difficult to find Smurf Websites on Google?
The word Smurf
is subject to strict copyright laws and thus you cannot use the word
“Smurf” in a domain name if the website is related to
the smurf cartoon characters, nor can you use the cartoon smurf pictures
to graphically illustrate your website.
Many people do
not realise that Smurfs can still be obtained in the UK or that they
are even still being made. When you put the word Smurfs into Google
the highest ranking websites are fairly obscure, the Papa Smurf cartoon
“Smurfs Lost Episode” being one of them. There are websites
discussing whether Smurfs have communist tendencies, their socio-political
themes and even the Sexual Adventures of the Smurfs!! With high ranking key words such as "Smurf Porn" then is it any wonder that the genuine Smurf Shops that are in existence are little heard of and
only known to the more seasoned collectors?
Smurfs have been
around for a long, long time and although no longer pop culture as
such, there are many collectors out there who are keeping the Smurf
collecting hobby alive. Rumours are abound of new smurf movies, smurf
videos and smurf dvds, and we will watch with interest for any more
definite signs of a Smurf revival. We like to think of the Smurfs
as the Trading Cards of yesteryear, but we are inclined to think that
the Smurfs will have the greater long-term staying power!
Update at July
2005: Definite plans for a Smurf
Movie were announced.
