Smurfs - The Classic Range
Eight
new smurfs were released in January 2005.
With
the 2005 smurfs it was back to basics, featuring classic favourites
Harmony, Grouchy, Papa Smurf, Jokey, Smurfette, Brainy, Vanity and
Baby smurf.
Some
people were delighted that Schleich had reverted back to the original
characters, some weren't so pleased. The new Papa Smurf 2.0533 was
very similar to Papa Thinking Smurf 2.0424 which proved disappointing
for most collectors. When questioned, Schleich had this explanation:

All
the new Smurfs represent completely new moulds although they look
very similar to the old ones. We therefore have to give them new numbers,
If you look at the current papa in the catalogue you will see his
head is slightly turned to the right, and the image of the new papa
shows him face parallel to feet looking straight ahead.
Interesting
fact about the 2005 Smurfs:
When
Schleich made the first batch of the new 2005 Smurfs there were technical
problems with Baby Smurf meaning that many Smurf Shops only initially
received seven out of the eight new Smurfs!
